Note that many websites have their own advertising, unrelated to adware. Adware is any software application in which advertising is displayed while the program is running. The authors of these applications include additional code that delivers the ads, which can be viewed through pop-up windows or through a bar that appears on a computer screen and sometimes through text links or in integrated search results. Adware may or may not track personal information. It may also gather information anonymously or in aggregate only. Users should check the EULA and Privacy policy to ensure if the adware on their machines conforms to their standards. | | Comment: | New.Net is a company that sells domain names for "nonstandard" top-level domains including .free, .xxx and .shop. While several such nonstandard TLDs are currently implemented by a number of organizations and under consideration by ICANN, this particular implementation smacks of an attempt to overthrow more legitimate pioneers of alternate domain-names (e.g. OpenNIC, AlterNIC). This software consists of a browser "plug-in" DLL (e.g. newdotnetx_xx.dll, where xxx indicate a version number), which is placed in the user's Windows folder. The file is normally placed in C:\Windows\ (C:\WinNT\ for NT users) and run silently at start-up (via Rundll32) by a Run key placed in the Windows registry. Until recently, New.Net offered a 0.05 USD commission for each system the plugin was successfully installed on. According to New.Net staff, this program has been discontinued. However other file-sharing clients and other free downloads continue to bundle it with downloads. | | Screenshots: | | New.net presents their EULA before installation. It is recommended that you use this to remove the program, as explained in more detail in the New.Net FAQ. DO NOT simply delete the DLL, as it tampers with the default Winsock settings and manual removal will cause you to lose Internet access. The Add/Remove dialogue is available by clicking Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs. To remove the plug-in, select new.net from the list and click Add/Remove. Rebooting the computer will complete the removal. | | Properties: | Autostarts/Stays Resident Changes browser Connects to the internet Stealth Tactics | | Related Products | | User Comments about this Product | What does the rating mean? | | Rating: | | | I have not been able to remove this from my computer using SpyBot S&D, Ad-Aware, WinPatrol, or the Add/Remove applet. It is not even listed in the Add/Remove list. | | User: | acter | | Rating: | | | I had this problem and Ad-Aware did not recognize it as an adware but the free Windows Live OneCare Online Safety Scanner recognized it but was unable to clean it but at least it gave me the directory path and I cleaned it manually, and just to make sure I re-scanned my PC twice afterwards and the results of OneCare Safety Scanner were negative. | | User: | IronRox | Click here to leave feedback for this product | | | Help with the BUST! | | | Click here and give us what details you have and let our international research team take it from there.
