These are usually anti-spyware or security software applications that use various forms of deception and/or unethical means or show a history of negligent false positives to goad the end user to make a purchase.
In some cases these applications maybe downloaded with some form of unwanted software at which point the rogue application is offered to the customer as a way to remove the unwanted software.

I have a pop up on my PC which is informing me that my PC s infected i have my own anti virus and spy software and do not want o but contravirus. I want this pop up removed off my PC as it is VERY IRRITATING .I have tried to remove it but it will not go and the pop up has NO info on how to remove it please ge rid of it or tell me how to. I am the reporter and more at zolaenterprises.com and wanted people to be aware it is coming from cashcrate the survey scam. We did an article on them and we even did articles on addrive scams which they got word of. They took addrive the no pay scams and traded it for pay with virus scams. This is another of MANY examples of what does happen when scammers deal with scammers. Just a heads up. I guess with all the bad food and even world wide e coli people forget that the net is a means that needs to also be protected. If not for the net I would be no more I am sure zolaenterprises.com scam busting is not what I do it is what I end up stck with.
