Removal tools: List of products that detect/remove/protect against Download Plus:
  • IM, P2P control, malware prevention and web filtering in single appliance: Unified Security Gateway
  • Category Description: Program that delivers advertisements on your PC.

Note that many websites have their own advertising, unrelated to adware.

Adware is any software application in which advertising is displayed while the program is running. The authors of these applications include additional code that delivers the ads, which can be viewed through pop-up windows or through a bar that appears on a computer screen and sometimes through text links or in integrated search results. Adware may or may not track personal information. It may also gather information anonymously or in aggregate only. Users should check the EULA and Privacy policy to ensure if the adware on their machines conforms to their standards.
Official Description: DownloadPlus is a process run at Windows startup which opens pop-up adverts (many of them porn-related) and, for some reason, weather reports.

The software also refers to itself as MessageCenter internally.
Comment: Can silently download and execute arbitrary unsigned code from its controlling server, as a self-updating feature.

One comment inside the program claims copyright by "PornKing".

Manual removal: Click Start and open the Programs menu. Open the Startup submenu, right-click 'Download Plus' and choose 'Delete'.

Restart the computer and you should be able to delete DownloadPlus.exe which can be found in the Application Data folder. (On Windows 95/98/Me, the Application Data folder can be found inside the Windows folder; on Windows NT it is inside your user 'Profiles' folder in the Windows folder; on Windows 2000 and XP it is inside your user Documents and Settings folder.)

If you have the MCInst loader, open Downloaded Program Files (which is in the Windows folder), right-click 'Loader class' and choose 'Remove'.
